1919. Created by writer Johnston McCully in All-Story Weekly magazine, Zorro is the secret identity of nobleman Don Diego de la Vega. The caped, masked, swordsman of Spanish colonial era California wages war on villains, and corrupt officials on behalf of the common people. An influence on characters such as The Lone Ranger, The Shadow, The Phantom (Ghost who walks), and Batman, Zorro continues the fight in books, films, TV, comic books, and computer and video games.
