VINCENT PRICE

1911-1993. Actor, writer, gourmet cook, art expert, Vincent Price was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He became a stage actor, and then made his film debut in 1938 with Service de Luxe. House of Wax (1953) began the public's identification of him as a successor to Karloff, Lugosi and Chaney Jr. The Fly (1958), House on Haunted Hill (1958), and The Tingler (1959) fueled the trend. It was cemented in 1960 when Roger Corman produced Edgar Allan Poe's House of Usher starring Vincent. Vincent's fame grew even larger, and a series of Poe films followed. Vince worked extensively on TV, and also in radio, where he played Simon Templar (The Saint). Other notable film work includes: Laura (1944); The Whales of August (1987); Edward Scissorhands (1990). But in 1977, Vince had begun his worldwide one man stage play portrayal of Oscar Wilde in Diversions and Delights, to critical acclaim. To many, it was his finest role.
