TINA TURNER

1939. Singer Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock in Nutbush, Tennessee on November 26, 1939. During the 1950s, Anna met musician Ike Turner and later joined his band, which became known through the 1960s and 1970s as the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. Tina Turner developed her reputation as an explosive live entertainer. Ike and Tina recorded many hits in the 1960s, and by the end of the decade Tina was attracted to rock and roll; they included their versions of classics such as Come Together, and Honky Tonk Woman. As musical styles continued to change, Tina, as a solo act, emerged as a unique singer-dancer-performer electrifying audiences in live concerts. One of the world's most popular and best-selling musical artists of all time, Tina Turner is the most commercially successful international female rock star, and has sold more concert tickets than any other solo performer in history.
