HUNTER S. THOMPSON

1937-2005. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Thompson was the journalist and author who is credited as having created Gonzo Journalism, a type of reporting where writers involve themselves into the story. His first great impression upon the public was the publication of his non-fiction book Hell's Angels (1966). Thompson immersed himself into the culture of the motorcycle organization, living and riding around with them for a year. His novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1972) became a classic of American literature. Thompson was known for his drug intake, love of firearms, and resistance to authoritarianism.
