MUSEUM OF MODERN MYTHOLOGY AND POP CULTURE

M I S C E L L A N E O U S

An early example of mass-media are the popular European prints (cheaply sold graphics) from the 1400s. In 1453 Johannes Gutenberg used a printing press with movable type to print the first book. Newspapers appeared around 1612, reaching the mainstream public in the 19th Century. Technology allowed mass-media to proliferate on a grand scale by the 20th Century. Records, movies, the mass marketing of books, and that upstart child, television, added their unique attributes to the many purposes of myth and legend: education, guidance, entertainment, advocacy, and inspiration. Here, you will find characters, subjects, items, and titles not found in the other Genre links. Example: Drama, Comedy, Music, Adventure, etc.
