KURT RUSSELL 1951. Kurt Vogel Russell was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, and began his acting career on television in 1963. His first movie was 1963's It Happened at the World's Fair, as the boy who kicks Elvis Presley. Kurt scored a ten-year contract with Disney, appearing in many films; he also became a professional minor league baseball player until a shoulder injury ended this career. An Emmy Award nomination as Elvis Presley in John Carpenter's TV movie Elvis (1979), showcased Kurt as an actor capable of a variety of roles. In 1981, John Carpenter cast Kurt in his most famous role: Snake Plissken, the outlaw turned folk hero of Escape from New York. Kurt has showed his flair for comedy, serious drama, and action in films such as: Silkwood (1983); Big Trouble in Little China (1986); Tequila Sunrise (1988); Tombstone (1993); and Dark Blue (2003). |
