KING KONG 1933. One of the truly great icons of the 20th Century, the giant gorilla first appeared in the gigantic-hit film King Kong, 1933, considered, among other things, a variation of the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast (1740). Produced by real-life adventurers Merian C. Cooper, Ernest B. Schoedsack, and Ruth Rose, the film's incredible special effects (for that time) were created by Willis O'Brien. Son of Kong (1933), King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962), and other film adventures followed; the 2005 Peter Jackson film King Kong won three Academy Awards. |
