JANE RUSSELL 1921. Gorgeous movie tough-girl Ernestine Jane Geraldine Russell was born in Bemidji, Minnesota. Jane became a member of Max Reinhardt's Theatrical Workshop in the late thirties, and attended Maria Ouspenskaya's Drama School. By 1943, Jane appeared in Howard Hughes's film production The Outlaw. Jane's talents were showcased in other films such as: Paleface (1948) with Bob Hope; His Kind of Woman (1951) with Robert Mitchum; Gentlemen Prefer Blonds (1953), and The Revolt of Mamie Stover (1956). Jane and her husband created the World Adoption International Fund, and worked for the passage of the Federal Orphan Adoption Amendment of 1953. Her institute also helped implement the Adoption Assistance and Child Welfare Act. Jane earned the Women's International Center (WIC) Living Legacy Award in 1989. |
