PHILIP JOSE FARMER AND THE WOLD NEWTON FAMILY

Left: Author Philip Jose Farmer; three time Hugo Award winner, Nebula, and World Fantasy Award winner. Right: Cover from the fifth Riverworld novel; Putman Publishing Group, 1983.

Born in 1918, Philip Jose Farmer was a science fiction and fantasy author, creator of the Riverworld series, World of Tiers series, and books in which he reformed the stories of fabled pulp heroes, constructing a Modern Mythology. The Riverworld saga, beginning with the novel To Your Scattered Bodies Go, concerns an afterlife simultaneously inhabited by every human that ever existed along a river valley circling a constructed planet. Captain Sir Richard Burton, Alice Pleasance Liddell (Lewis Carroll's inspiration for Alice of Wonderland fame), Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), and many other diverse people drive the storyline of the series.
