Yokut Indian Estanislao, who led an 1827 revolt against the Mission San Jose, often carved his initial with a sword to authenticate his presence. Zorro is an early precursor of American comic book Super-Heroes, the most obvious being Batman. On the night Bruce Wayne's parents are murdered, the family goes to the movies and sees The Mark of Zorro. They both have subterranean hideouts, where Zorro keeps his horse, and Batman his Batmobile. Zorro's nocturnal activities and caped appearance has a Dracula-like quality, as does Batman. In pulp magazines, novels, comic strips, comic books, movies, TV, music (Alice Cooper and EPMD), and computer games, Zorro continues his crusade against injustice.
