JOURNAL OF MODERN MYTHOLOGY AND POP CULTURE INTRODUCTION PAGE 26
The Mad Tea Party by John Tenniel.
The sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass (1871), has Alice stepping into a mirror into another weird country. Is the mirror a teleportation device? A wormhole to another space/time? Does it matter? There are many mirror themes in the story, including opposites and time running backwards. Based somewhat on a game of chess, the plot unfolds on a giant chessboard with fields for squares. In 1903 the first Alice movie appeared. The Alice collectible industry is immense, especially because of the internet. Rare books, reprints, toys, clocks, pillows, puzzles, recordings, and other items are available. Alice-Shops exist in England, and in Bournemouth, there is an Alice Theme Park. A video and computer game designer, American McGee, released a horror game titled American McGee's Alice in 2000.
