The 'Franken' prefix has entered our verbal lexicon to indicate anything from artificial manipulation of food and crops, genetic creation of life in laboratories, to an object or concept constructed from ingredients of dissimilar origins. Frankenstein's Monster is one of the first Multi-Media Superstars of the 19th Century, and thus, one of the first of the 20th Century. Mary Shelley's creation plays the first important role in the reinstatement of myth and pop culture as a central focus of modern life.
