Mythology: stories, recurring themes, character types that appeal to people by representing cultural ideals. Deep human consciousness gives expression in the adventures of our creative minds. The oldest recorded literature in the world, myths seem to have begun through a desire to explain creation. Folklore, legends, fairy tales, and myths around the world contain similar other themes but they differ in their treatment of those themes according to their culture. Mythopoeia is the modern creation of myths, exemplified by authors, such as, Edgar Rice Burroughs and J. R. R. Tolkien, and the Star Trek, Star Wars, film franchises.
