EDGAR ALLAN POE

1809-1849. Poet, short story writer, literary critic, Poe, born in Boston, Massachusetts, is considered one of the most important American authors of the 19th century. He transformed the short story to an art, created the modern form of detective stories, and pioneered science fiction and the psychological thriller. Poe's influence, and popularity are worldwide. During his lifetime, Poe was represented in print, art, photography, and stage. Well after his death, the adaptations continue in film, radio, TV, comic books, games, and as a character in other writers' works.
