MUSEUM OF MODERN MYTHOLOGY AND POP CULTURE

DRACULA

1897. Count Dracula is a Transylvanian nobleman descended from Attila the Hun. A sorcerer, he returned from the dead by invoking the magical arts and became a vampire, living for centuries in a Carpathian castle with three wives. Dracula's creator was Bram Stoker, a business manager for the Lyceum Theatre in London, and the assistant of actor Sir Henry Irving. Dracula remains one of the greatest and popular Modern Myths ever, a testament to the fascination of evil---the recognition of the dualistic nature of humans, and the danger of an evil side set loose unchecked.
