SAMMY DAVIS JR.

Born in New York City, New York, Sammy Davis Jr (1925-1990) is arguably the greatest all-around entertainer in history. Sammy began performing at the age of three in a vaudeville act with his father and Will Mastin. Though mainly a dancer and singer, Sammy also distinguished himself as an actor and participant in the Civil Rights movement. On a golf course one day, Jack Benny asked Sammy what his handicap was; Sammy answered, "Handicap? Talk about handicap---I'm a one-eyed Negro Jew."
