CHRISTOPHER LEE 1922. Sir Christopher Frank Carandini Lee was born in London, England. Lee is erudite in several languages, making him the perfect international film actor. Chris served in the Royal Air Force and Intelligence during World War II. His film debut was in 1948. In 1957 he was cast in Hammer Films' Curse of Frankenstein, playing the monster. The next year Dracula (American title, Horror of Dracula) broke tradition with Lee's suave, relentless, ferocious interpretation of the Count. Christopher Lee branched out into other genres, becoming a great international character actor who also sings opera. He is known to new generations of film fans as Count Dooku in the Star Wars films, and the evil wizard Saruman in the Lord of the Rings films. He was knighted by the Queen in 2009. |
