MICHAEL CAINE

1933. Sir Maurice Joseph Micklewhite Jr., CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) was born in Rotherhithe, South East London. During the 1950s Maurice did his National Service as a Fusilier in the Royal Fusiliers, and experienced combat during the Korean War. Maurice's acting career began in the 1960s in stage productions. Using the professional name, Michael Caine, he appeared as a British army officer in the 1964 film Zulu. This led to roles in The Ipcress File (1965), and Alfie (1966), which made him an international star. Michael Caine has been nominated for the Academy Award six times, winning two Oscars for his roles in Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), and The Cider House Rules (1999). Caine is one of only two actors to be nominated in every decade since the 1960s. Considered one of the greatest actors of all time, he excels in films, such as: Get Carter, Sleuth, The Man Who Would Be King, Educating Rita, and The Quiet American.
