RAY BRADBURY 1920. Born in Waukegan, Illinois, Ray Bradbury is considered one of the few really great 20th Century writers of fantasy and science fiction. His first professional short story sale was to Super Science Stories magazine in 1941. In 1947, Bradbury's first book, Dark Carnival, a short story anthology, was published by August Derleth's Arkham House. Bradbury's novels Fahrenheit 451, and The Martian Chronicles, especially, are deserved classics, alongside those of authors, such as, Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, and Edgar Rice Burroughs. On his 80th birthday, Ray Bradbury stated, "My great fun in my life has been getting up every morning and rushing to the typewriter because some new idea has hit me." |
