THE BEATLES

1958. The Fab Four: the band from Liverpool, England that took the world by storm in the 1960s on musical, cultural and political levels. In 1957, John Lennon (1940-1980) formed a band called The Quarrymen. Guitarist Paul McCartney (born 1942) joined that same year and, by 1958, lead guitarist George Harrison (1943-2001) had joined the group. In 1962, Ringo Starr (born 1940), who had performed with the Beatles in Hamburg became the group's drummer. Their gigantic success opened the floodgates of change simmering worldwide. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, The Beatles have sold more albums in the United States than any other group.
